Challenges and Barriers to the European Union Expansion to the Balkan Region

The enlargement of the European Union is one of the biggest challenges of the coming years. After the last process of enlargement, with the accession of Croatia (2013), the door was opened for the accession of the remaining Balkan countries.

This book seeks to address critical issues and challenges in European Union and the emerging trends for the EU's future. Authors from varied disciplines and regions will examine and offer insight into what knowledge already exists in European issues (historical and legislative processes) and the challenges associated with the enlargement and construction of the European project. Despite all efforts to create a political Union, capable of improving European citizens quality of life, there are several barriers to the implementation of the enlargement process. In the turmoil of economic, social and sanitarian crises, what is the space to debate the enlargement of the Union? This book aims to present the EU's structure, the process of enlargement and the challenges related to the Balkan region.
