Adjudication in the Building Industry

Compulsory rapid adjudication (CRA), also called ‘security of payment’, is revolutionising the construction industry. It enables contractors, large and small, suppliers and consultants to recover disputed payments in weeks instead of months or years, usually at no cost to the claimant. CRA has spread from NSW to Victoria and New Zealand and will commence in Queensland on 1 October 2004. Other Australian States are expected to follow shortly. This expansion together with recent changes to the NSW legislation which have resulted in an exponential increase in adjudications and decided cases on adjudication has necessitated a complete review and rewrite of the first book, Adjudication in the New South Wales Construction Industry.
