Narben/Scars

NARBEN/SCARS, an art project on sexual abuse was initiated to fight the forbidden act of sexual-violence against children and teenagers. This two-language volume (English/German) puts together scientific essays by top experts as well as the documentation of an art project for the first time. The book shows opportunities for and barries to art in common space, and a complete section on the anonymized hand-over of personal items of the victims as well as the reactions on the initiative.Das Kunstprojekt Narben von Franz Wassermann gibt dem Unsagbaren Raum: Sexualisierter Gewalt und sexuellen Übergriffen auf Kinder und Jugendliche. In Zusammenarbeit mit Überlebenden und Hilfseinrichtungen erarbeitet der Künstler Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten jenseits des Sagbaren und schafft so eine Öffentlichkeit für Betroffene und deren Erfahrungen: in Bildern, Installationen, Performances, Ritualen und in diesem Buch. Wie seine Publikation zum Temporären Denkmal vereint der vorliegende zweisprachige Sammelband (Deutsch/Englisch) wissenschaftliche Beiträge von FachexpertInnen mit der Dokumentation eines Kunstprojekts. Die Psychotherapeutinnen Margret Aull und Sonja Wohlatz, die Literatur- und KulturwissenschaftlerInnen Beate Eder-Jordan, Reinhard Görling und Anita Moser, die Journalistin Andrea Sommerauer, die Kunstpädagogin Hanne Seitz sowie die Kunsthistorikerin Tamar Tembeck und die Schriftstellerin Marlene Streeruwitz nähern sich aus je unterschiedlichen Perspektiven dem Thema und dem Kunstprojekt.
Die Verwirklichung einer menschengerechten Umwelt – ganz im Sinne des Social Design – liegt den Kunstprojekten von Franz Wassermann als Ziel, und so auch diesem Buch als Haltung, zu Grunde.

The art project Narben/Scars by Franz Wassermann makes room for what is unspeakable: sexualized violence and sexual abuse of children and young people. In cooperation with survivors and support organizations the artist developed possibilities for expression beyond the articulable, thus creating a public sphere for those affected and their experiences: in images, installations, performances, rituals, and in this book. Like his publication on Temporäres Denkmal/Temporary Monument, this bilingual (German/English) anthology conjoins academic articles by experts with the documentation of the art project. The psychotherapists Margret Aull and Sonja Wohlatz, the literature and cultural studies scholars Beate Eder-Jordan, Reinhard Görling and Anita Moser, the journalist Andrea Sommerauer, the art educator Hanne Seitz, the art historian Tamar Tembeck and the writer Marlene Streeruwitz approach the topic and the art project from different perspectives. Realizing an environment in keeping with human dignity – wholly in the sense of Social Design – is the goal in which the art projects by Franz Wassermann are rooted and thus also the stance on which this book is based.
